Vamanos

Yes, I am ready to go! As an early childhood educator, I am very interested in technology that young users take advantage of. As a practiocioner that has a M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education I still didn't feel like I could add enough to my profession without learning abouthow students/children get motivated to learn by using technology. I have been getting first hand experience getting my five year old to use available technology and software. I find that of course she is motivated to go on www.disney.com and she instantly learns how to play some of the games without any assistance from her technology driven mom.

More specifically, I am ready to discuss and research how teachers can use blogs to increase students technological activity at an early age. Many teachers do not like to think about having students on the computer when they can't read. What do you think? Do you have you any experience motivating students by using technology? Has it worked?

I use the disney site with my little guys and they really like it. That is proof that video games need to be more pronounced in the classroom in order to grasps today's student's attention.

I don't have experience in this area either :) It is all so new in terms of being used in education and I can definitely see how a teacher who learns how to use the tool in education can be a teacher leader in the quest of blogs.
What a great way to get young students to read and write. But there is also some scaffolding that needs to be done. Getting parents involved would also be a great way to support the process.

Our school has buddy classes where a 5th or 6th grade class teams with a younger class (typically K, 1 or 2) for all kinds of activities. We have used buddies to help the younger ones with technology - typing what they dictate, helping them navigate windows, reading directions, etc. They sometimes play online games together or work through web quests as mentor and student. I wonder if having a buddy class help your kids with blog postings would be motivating - not just for your kids, but for the older ones as well.

Technology always gets my students' attention. They are far from early childhood age, but I think it works for all students! It always adds a little more excitement!
