Digital Editing

I just completed a black history unit with my students that ended in a bag book report project. The students were really excited and so was I. I like teaching my students about black history because many of them have NO idea about its importance. I also really think they really get into it because they feel smarter. Learning about many of the important figures helps them to build more text, self and world connections.

I video taped my students presenting their projects. It took me longer than I thought to complete the digital editing component of the video. However, I really enjoyed it.

One of the things that I notice about this semester is that the more we learn about technology integration the more I try to implement it with my students. Each day, I try really hard to continue to integrate technology into my class. I love it and they do to!

Has any one else had any similar experiences?

I agree, Javonna. My whole job is helping others integrate technology so I see it all the time. I love watching teachers start to build their technology skills because it leads to using it more with their students. Your Black History unit sounds great - I hope you'll share some with our class.

Jevonna,
Your unit on Black History is wonderful. I also agree that, since I started in the ITS program I have tried to add more technology to my classroom. I teach Early Childhood Special Education. One of the ways I have added technology is making hypermedia powerpoints with a IEP goal that we are working ont. The students love this, and it is a great way for me to keep documentation.

I think its great that you are so willing to try and integrate new technology into your teaching! I am always excited and exhilarated by learning something new with technology and it sounds like you are too. Video editing can be very frustrating to work with but I bet you feel like you accomplished something amazing now that you are done. Congrats!

you must be in a very positive learning environment, one that encourages teachers AND students to take RISKS! everyday with technology can be a risk (so many things can go wrong) but everyday is also a day of opportunity and "lessons learned." have you thought about putting your tech integration activities / lesson plans into a "BEST OF ..." collection? I'm sure your colleagues & other tchrs would appreciate it!
